15.06.09 - Project Penguin

Monday 15 June 2009 - cold in morning, warm throughout the rest of the day
Today was the day that I was required to meet annoying little kids about the age of 9 and 10. It was also the day, my mum was going on a 1 day trip to Melbourne. I knew, from the very first moment I saw them, it was going to be hell.
It's amazing how stuck up little kids can be. They can be so annoying for some one their size, and you find yourself asking
How do they fit all this annoyingness into themselves? I swear, Liz and I have the worst group.
So in the morning, my dad woke me up at 6:00AM so that I wouldn't sleep in. This was the time he was leaving to take my mum to the airport. I lay on my bed, thinking to myself
I'll get up in 5 minutes. Funnily enough, in 3 minutes, I was asleep again. When my dad got home from the airport, it wazs already 7:40AM. 10 minutes after I was supposed to get out of the house in order to make the buses. Once again, my dad dragged me out of bed. I had to beg for a lift again and this time, he took me all the way to Forestway. Even so, I was still late to the bus stop. I arrived at the bus stop at around 8:10AM and the bus should have come by now, but it hadn't so I was lucky. I got to school at 8:40AM. I was supposed to meet at the library steps at 8:30AM, but I was late.
After a while, we started walking to North Curl Curl Primary School. I walked alongside Lizzy and we made up a little random thing, that I can't find words to explain.
When we got there, I realised how short a while it had been since I moved from primary school to high school. But then I realised how boring it must have been. I mean, who runs around like they can fly anymore. Who pretends they're superman. Okay, that's ironic. Haha, I can so talk can't I, eh? I noticed how many people rode bicycles to school. It was such a scene seeing so many bicycles riding through the school gate. We didn't see many asian kids though, which was a
shame. T_T What is this empty asian population in that school. *sigh, guess we can't help that...
Anyway, after that, all the Project Penguin participants gathered in this miniscule building. I guess it wasn't that small, about the size of a classroom. There, we were supposed to meet the little kids of our groups. First the teacher told us about the project all over again. Then she called out the groups one by one. The first group was actually ours. This is how the conversation went, sort of;
teacher; [the names of the people in our group go here] please stand up and mentors who have this group
chia; *looks at the group and continues to sleep
liz; *looks for 5 seconds, *looks at chia , *to chia says: Holy shit, that's our group
chia; it is? *looks up , HOLY CRAP IT IS
liz + chia; stand up guiltily and walk to the side of the room
Yeah, that's how responsible we are. After that, as the mentees went to their classroom to collect their booklets, Liz and I grabbed ours and furiously flicked through the b=pages to look for their names. Originally, we thought one of their names were Anastasia and Hannah. Turns out that none of their names had anything related to Anastasia or Hannah.
Quick review of kids;
Kyle; annoying as usual and doesn't do his work. He barely contributes and when he does it's mostly unrelated. He has this smile that annoys the hell out of me and just annoys the rest of the group. When they asked each other if they could kick on of the members out of the group, the all said Kyle.
Nadia; she's actually kind of stuck up. She did this random
reoww thing at this other group and kept giggling to herself. She tries to take control of the group and thinks she's the bus. But out of everyone, she probably does the most work.
Olivia; she's quite well behaved, but sometimes she gets out of hand. She contributes quite a bit and sometimes she pisses me off, but not as much as everyone else does.
Natasha; she's probably the most well behaved. I asked what they had at the canteen and she was the first to reply. She even offered to get it for me, but I gave her the money. She's probably the most mature out of them all, which isn't very mature.
Barr; he is definately the most quiet, but that also means that he doesn't contribute a lot which is a bit of a downside and complained how the mentors weren't helping. That's quite true actually.
We chose to sit at one of the tables and discussed what we were doing for the project. Half the time, we started talking about food. There isn't really much to discuss here. After recess, we went to a mini meeting in the random classroom sized room again and discussed the marking guidelines. Once again, we then went back to deciding on information to put on our project. Halfway through, their teacher came and found that some of the mentees weren't working so well so she made us go into the classroom after lunch so that she could keep an eye on them.
After lunch, we had another meeting, in the library . Their library is so small and packed. It was hard to fit everyone in to the room. I kept on poking holes in my paper because I couldn't be bothered to do anything else. After that, we assigned for people to do different things for the next time we came and worked with them.
When we walked back to school, Liz found a reason to annoy Will. It looked like fun, so I joined in. We spent the rest of the school day annoying Will. At the bus bay, we got his pencil case and 2 of his USBs and managed to keep them from him for a while. I kept the 2 USBs in my bus pass holder thing until my bus came then I gave one back and the other to Liz. I do not know the end outcome but I'm sure it should have been funny.
On the bus, we played cards. What'd you expect. When I got home, I went to do some paper runs, and overall, the rest of my day wasn't all that interesting. So yeah.
:)
P.S. There is going to be an extra post today because I realised that I'm blogging a day later than I'm supposed to be, for example this blog, which was yesterday. Laters.
